Step back into Iowa’s early history with historian and author Kevin Mason as he explores the 1835 U.S. Dragoons expedition and its lasting impact on the state’s landscape, communities, and development.

Based on his book Retracing the Dragoon Trail in Iowa and his own 371-mile journey following the expedition’s route, Mason brings Iowa’s past to life through engaging stories of travel, settlement, and environmental change. A professor of history at the University of Northern Iowa, Mason has shared his research through Iowa Public Radio, Iowa PBS, and other media outlets.
